Eastern Star Life Members Feted
Over a dozen senior citizens were honored recently at a
lobster salad luncheon for Life members of Pine Cone Chapter #26, Order of
the Eastern Star. The luncheon is an annual event, but 2006 saw a record
number of honorees. "Pine Cone recently merged with Mt. Olivet Chapter and
the result is a stronger organization with more members", said Kathy
Williamson, Worthy Matron of Pine Cone Chapter. "Our Life Members are the
people who have done the most to keep up the traditions and the community
service that are the foundation of Eastern Star."
The Worthy Matron awarded special certificates to Arlene
Zabierek, 60-year member, and Glenna Davis, who will receive her 50-year pin
in early 2007. Members and guests enjoyed a round of "Musical Hats" after
lunch.
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest organization
in the world to which both men and women can belong. Eastern Star supports
local charities including Masonic Learning Centers for children with
dyslexia, and a scholarship fund for seminary students. For more information
on membership or community giving, call 783-4872.
